Wedding DJ on the French Riviera: a music guide

From Saint-Tropez to Menton, the French Riviera has everything couples from around the world dream of: sea-view villas, legendary hotels, hidden bastides in the hills and sunsets over the Mediterranean. It’s also a region where every venue has its own rules, and where the music has to fit the setting as much as the guests.

I’m a DJ and music director based in Marseille, and I’ve been playing weddings and events on the French Riviera for more than 15 years. Here’s my guide to getting the music right for your Riviera wedding.

Why get married on the French Riviera

Nice airport has direct flights to many cities in Europe and beyond, which makes it easy for international guests. Once there, the choice is huge: private villas, legendary hotels on the Cap d’Antibes, estates in the hills around Grasse or Saint-Tropez.

Weddings here often run over several days, with a welcome dinner, the wedding day and a brunch or pool party the day after. The music ties all these moments together.

A few venues worth knowing in the area

Bastide du Roy — Antibes

A bastide surrounded by gardens, with a courtyard that is perfect for a stage in the evening. I played Reshmi & Aron’s wedding there, with violin during the cocktail hour, then DJ and live band. Read the story of this Bastide du Roy wedding

Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc — Antibes

A legendary seafront venue where elegance comes first. The music stays refined, building up gradually through the evening. Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild — Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat

Spectacular gardens between two bays. An ideal setting for a ceremony with live musicians and a sunset cocktail hour. Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

Villa Belrose — Gassin, Saint-Tropez

A view over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and a more festive mood, perfect for parties mixing house, disco and timeless classics. Villa Belrose

Bastide Saint Mathieu — Grasse

Quietly tucked away inland, an intimate bastide for couples who want the Riviera without the bustle of the coast. Bastide Saint Mathieu

Private villas, hotels, boats: what to plan ahead

  • Private villas: they offer a lot of freedom, but neighbours and local rules often set limits on timing and volume. Plan for it from the start. More in my article on music for private villa events on the French Riviera.
  • Hotels and large estates: they have their own rules on timing, access and technical setup. I work directly with their teams.
  • Open air by the sea: wind and humidity call for suitable equipment and a plan B for the evening.
  • Boats: a welcome party or an after-party at sea is possible, with a setup designed for the space and safety on board. See my article on DJing on a yacht.
  • Logistics: in high season, traffic along the coast can be heavy. Setup times are agreed early with your wedding planner.

A day in music on the Riviera

Brice Adel on the decks with a violinist during a poolside cocktail hour, wedding in Antibes

Poolside DJ + violin cocktail hour, Bastide du Roy.

  • The ceremony: violin, saxophone or guitar, with discreet sound.
  • The cocktail hour: DJ and live musicians facing the sea or by the pool.
  • Dinner: a softer mood timed with service and speeches, with announcements in French and English.
  • The party: first dance, then a set built by reading the dance floor, solo or with the live band.
  • The day after: pool party or brunch with music.

That’s the whole idea behind my DJ + live band format.

International weddings: a bilingual DJ

On the French Riviera, most of the weddings I play bring together guests from several countries. I speak French and English, and we build a playlist together that brings everyone onto the dance floor. If you’re a wedding planner, my guide to working with a bilingual DJ explains how I work.
