Between the bastides around Aix, the wine estates and the hilltop villages of the Luberon, this corner of Provence draws couples from all over the world every year. Golden light, dinners under plane trees, open-air parties facing the hills: the setting is perfect. But for the celebration to live up to it, the music has to be planned around the venue, the schedule and the guests.
I’m a DJ and music director based in Marseille, and I’ve been playing weddings in Aix-en-Provence and the Luberon for more than 15 years. Here’s what you need to know to get the music right for your wedding in the area.

Why get married in Aix-en-Provence or the Luberon
The Aix area offers châteaux and bastides just minutes from town, with easy access from Marseille airport and the Aix TGV station. The Luberon is all about characterful villages, from Bonnieux to Gordes and Lourmarin, with more secluded estates and a real sense of escape.
Either way, these are often multi-day weddings with many guests flying in from abroad. That’s exactly where music direction makes the difference: one thread running from the welcome dinner to the brunch, and a party that brings together guests from different cultures and languages.
A few venues worth knowing in the area
Château de la Gaude — Aix-en-Provence
French formal gardens, an elegant façade and a very refined atmosphere. Here the music builds gently: soul and nu-jazz for the cocktail hour, then a party that rises step by step. Château de la Gaude
Château La Coste — Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade
Vineyards, contemporary architecture and open-air artworks make it a venue like no other. It suits more modern and electronic moods while staying elegant. Château La Coste
Domaine de Fontenille — Lauris
A bastide in the heart of the Luberon, surrounded by vines and gardens. An intimate setting that calls for warm music and live musicians during the ceremony and cocktail hour. Domaine de Fontenille
Capelongue — Bonnieux
A breathtaking view over the Luberon and a pool that becomes a playground the next day. I played Christy & Max’s wedding there in three parts: pool party, reception and party. Read the story of this Capelongue wedding

What to plan ahead for the music
Every estate around Aix and in the Luberon has its own rules. A few things to check as soon as you choose your venue:
- Timing and volume: many venues set an end time for outdoor music, sometimes with a sound limiter. It’s worth knowing early so you can plan an indoor after-party if needed.
- Open air: ceremony in the vineyards, cocktails on the terrace, dinner under the trees. Each space needs its own setup, and there should always be a plan B for wind or rain.
- Power and access: some remote estates require checking the available power and access for equipment.
- Moving between spaces: going from ceremony to cocktail to dinner often means moving the sound. Build it into the timeline with your wedding planner.
A day in music, from welcome dinner to brunch

At a wedding in the area, I often cover several moments:
- The ceremony: violin, saxophone or acoustic guitar, with discreet sound so every word is heard.
- The cocktail hour: DJ with live musicians, building energy without drowning out conversation.
- Dinner: a softer selection timed with service and speeches, with announcements in French and English.
- The party: first dance, then a set built in real time by reading the dance floor.
- The day after: pool party or brunch, with a more relaxed feel.
That’s the idea behind my DJ + live band format: one contact for the music of the whole day.
International weddings: a bilingual DJ
Many couples marrying in the Luberon and around Aix come from abroad, or bring together two families from different countries. I speak French and English, and we build a playlist together that blends cultures: each family’s classics, the songs that matter to you, and what will get everyone dancing. More tips in my article on planning a bilingual wedding in the South of France.
