DJ set et live band en soirée, mariage au Domaine de Canaille à Cassis

Wedding DJ in Marseille and Cassis: a music guide

Marseille is home. Between the sea, the calanques, the hills and the bastides inland, the city and its surroundings offer a wide range of wedding settings, just minutes from the airport and Saint-Charles station. From Marseille to Cassis, through La Ciotat and the Aubagne area, every venue has its own atmosphere, and the music has to follow.

I’m a DJ and music director based in Marseille, and I’ve been playing weddings in the area for more than 15 years. Here’s what you need to know to get the music right for your wedding in Marseille and Cassis.

Getting married in Marseille and on the coast

The Marseille area has a rare advantage: you can combine the sea and Provence in a single weekend. A ceremony facing the calanques, dinner at a wine estate, a seaside brunch the next day. For guests flying in from abroad, access is easy, and the city itself has plenty to offer for a welcome dinner or a party the night before.

The settings that work best

Estates between Cassis and La Ciotat

Vineyards, sea views and wide outdoor spaces: the ideal setting for a full day, from ceremony to party. I played a wedding at Domaine de Canaille there, with a live band during the cocktail hour and the party. Read the story of this Cassis wedding — Domaine de Canaille

Bastides inland

Around Aubagne, Allauch or towards Aix, bastides bring the Provençal spirit close to the city, often with more freedom on timing than seaside venues.

Seaside and city venues

Terraces facing the Mediterranean, private restaurants, rooftops: perfect for a welcome dinner, a pre-wedding party or a more urban wedding. Acoustics and neighbours call for a well-thought-out setup.

For more ideas across the region, here’s my guide to the most beautiful wedding venues in Provence and the French Riviera.

What to plan ahead for the music

  • The wind: the mistral can pick up without warning. Outdoors, you need suitable equipment and a plan B for the ceremony and the party.
  • Timing and volume: many venues, especially by the sea, set an end time for outdoor music. Check it when you book.
  • Access: some estates between Cassis and La Ciotat have narrow roads. Setup is planned with the venue and your wedding planner.
  • Moving between spaces: ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and party often happen in different places, and the sound has to follow.

A day in music

  • The ceremony: violin, saxophone or guitar, with discreet sound facing the sea or in the vineyards.
  • The cocktail hour: DJ and live musicians for a mood that builds gradually.
  • Dinner: a softer selection timed with service and speeches, with announcements in French and English.
  • The party: first dance, then a set built by reading the dance floor, solo or with the live band.
  • The day after: brunch or pool party with music.

That’s the idea behind my DJ + live band format: one contact for the music of the whole day.

A local, bilingual DJ

Being based in Marseille means knowing the venues, the teams and the local constraints. And since many of my couples come from abroad, I host in French and English. To help you choose, here’s my guide to choosing a destination wedding DJ in Provence.
